2009 - Here and there in 2009

This train is leaving in about 3 minutes, let's go. I think..." Romain is not even finishing his sentence before he starts running. At this moment I am finding myself running from side to side to avoid running down other people at the main railway staion in Taipei, Taiwan. There are just a few things better than leaving the suits and ties behind, jump into the sandals, put on some comfortable clothes and letting the power of randomness taking over...

After 4 days dressed up for the Graduate Business Conference in Taipei (15th to 19th April, representing NHH and CEMS), a few days on the road in Taiwan, was one of the travel highlights of 2009. This trip actually started by spending some great days in Hong Kong and Macau. Then I headed for Taiwan where I hang out with Alison from New Orleans a few days before the conference started (yes, the girl from New Orleans that I first met in Vietnam in 2004, bumped into by chance when I lived in Barcelona 2006, and that came and visited me when I studied in Boston last year). She was now teaching English in Taipei. When the conference were over Romain and I went to the railway station, and we more or less agreed on taking the first train available...we ended up in Hualien!

Even though 2009 was the year I almost drowned myself in work (extra curriculum projects, corporate finance cases, business project, summer job and master thesis) I still managed to leave Bergen a couple of times for travelling. It is funny to think about that when I headed for the "around the world trip" in 2004 I earnestly believed that this was my only chance, the one time in life it would be possible - this is it! I thought studying at NHH would be so tough that I would have no time to anything but studying. I couldn't be more wrong, those months made me think about how I could combine study, summer jobs etc. with travelling.

Since I am about to enter the real work life, with just a few weeks off every year, I am again wondering about how I will be able to "get out there", but looking back at these pictures from 2009 I am optimistic - I will find a way.
